MicroLumen Transformation: A Back‑to‑Nature Acoustic Solution

MicroLumen Transformation: A Back‑to‑Nature Acoustic Solution

At MDC, we’re proud to have played a key role in a recent transformation at MicroLumen, a leading innovator in lighting solutions based in Florida. Elevation Architecture’s Project Manager, Jessica Kisthart, envisioned a remarkable reimagining of a high-traffic corridor linking manufacturing and private offices. Her concept, centered around the color green and the evocative idea of “Back to Nature,” aimed to create a unique, restorative experience while tackling significant acoustic challenges. Its function as a central connector, lined with glass-fronted offices, made effective noise reduction paramount for employee well-being and productivity.

The solution began to take shape through our Zintra catalog. Jessica was particularly drawn to the dynamic interplay of our Wave and Batten patterns, noting, “Achieving quiet was the ultimate goal, and the Wave and Batten patterns perfectly embodied my concept with their fractal and warm textures, offering a visual representation of nature’s complexity and comfort.” These designs also offered promising acoustic properties crucial for the corridor’s functionality. The knowledgeable support of MDC Account Executive Rebecca Coles, serving the Florida region, was crucial in this initial discovery and selection, guiding Jessica toward effective solutions.

The ultimate selection of Zintra 3D Wall Panels and Baffles was driven by their innovative design, exceptional color saturation matching the “Back to Nature” palette and significant customization ability for MicroLumen’s unique dimensions. Jessica explained, “Zintra provided me with design options that no other manufacturer had, allowing my concept to seamlessly merge with critical functionality.”

The integration of MDC’s Zintra products was a key design decision from inception, demonstrating a holistic approach to aesthetics and acoustics. The intentional and rhythmic application of Wave 3D Wall Panels and Baffles introduced dynamic, flowing movement, visually mimicking wind through leaves or gentle water currents. Complementing this, Batten panels provided a grounding, tactile element with their linear texture and warmth, reminiscent of natural wood grains, contributing to organic comfort.

The carefully curated shades of green from Zintra’s offerings further enhanced the “Back to Nature” theme, enveloping the corridor in a cohesive, inviting atmosphere aimed at reducing stress and promoting calm. The variety of designs, clear specification process and smooth installation were all significant factors contributing to project success. Even an unexpected issue with damaged panels was resolved swiftly and efficiently by our responsive team, underscoring our commitment to exceptional customer service and minimizing delays.

From a technical standpoint, Zintra products yielded impressive acoustic results. Custom-designed 24-inch deep Wave baffles (NRC exceeding 1.00) effectively absorbed overhead sound reverberation. Simultaneously, strategically placed Batten boards (NRC of 0.45) tackled wall reflections. This dual-layered acoustic treatment proved instrumental in absorbing considerable noise from constant foot traffic and activity within the hard-surfaced corridor.

The thoughtful placement of these acoustic elements dramatically improved sound quality and reduced noise transfer into adjacent private offices. They also became an integral part of the overall aesthetic design, transforming a once utilitarian passageway into a visually engaging and comfortable environment, prioritizing the well-being of MicroLumen’s employees and visitors.

The transformation has been remarkable. Visually, the space now evokes a “vibrant quietness,” as Jessica eloquently describes it. Functionally, it successfully mitigated sound transfer, creating a more peaceful and productive environment. Positive reactions and enthusiastic feedback from the MicroLumen team and visitors have been overwhelmingly affirmative, validating the design choices and MDC’s effectiveness. Reflecting on the collaborative journey, Jessica concluded with high praise: “From concept to completion, it was seamlessly perfect.”
